Good morning.  I need some help from you all. I am having a very difficult time with tolerating the protein shakes that my doctor suggested.  I have thankfully not had any problems with vomitting or anything, but the stomach rumbles and general yuck feeling is taking over.  I am to the point that I do not even want to drink them at all.   currently they have me on Carnation instant breakfast mixed with skim milk and 1/3 cup of non-fat dry milk.  I have also tried the boost glucose control prior to surgery and was completely grossed out.  I can drink plain milk with out a problem--and I am also allowed cottage cheese-so I as able to get in my protein yesterday with only drinking one shake.   I desperately need some other options.  Please help!! Becky

I use some per-mixed shakes that come in a can from Vitamin Shoppe. The are made by Pure Protein. They have 35g per can. I love the bannana cream, strawberry cream and cookies n cream. They also make a vanilla and chocolate. They are smooth and I don't taste or smell too much protein, but then again I have been drinking them for a year. Don't buy a whole lot of one thing in case you hate it. But keep trying protein shakes and drinks. I also do the vials that can be found at Vitamin Shoppe. They are only 3 oz and have 42g of protein. I don't drink a whole one at a time. That much protein upsets my tummy. So I do 1/2 in that am and 1/2 in the afternoon. Keep on keepin' on. Good luck with your search. Just remember WE HAVE to have the protein. Get tha****er in too.

Please call and speak to one of the nurses at Commonwealth Surgeons.  They will have suggestions for you.  I am surprised that you are tolerating plain skim milk.  What you have going on sounds a bit like lactose intolrence.  Good luck, Loris

Isopure...it's kind of like Gatorade...no dairy or Whey...I tolerated it really well. It's available at GNC...it's expensive...like $3.50 a bottle but 40GM of protein and well worth it in my book!

Thank you all so much for your suggestions--I will give a few a try.  Of course a lot of this is probably my fault for now trying a few prior to surgery.  Oh well, live and learn. Thanks again and have a great day... Becky

I get the Matrix Chocolate, Micellar Milk (Chocolate and vvanilla), IDS Chocolate Mint and Protein Delite all from the Vitamin Shoppe.  Plus, muscle milk chocolate pudding packs. Nice thing about Vitamin Shopps is that you can return it (with receipt) if you do not like it. But...I use the micellar milk as a milk replacement in my shakes.  Milk upsets my tummy when I work out.
